{thrift score thursday} 6.28

A couple of weeks ago I awoke early on a Friday to drive to an estate sale in a small town in the mountains. I turned up the music and drove with the windows down watching the morning light reflect off the hills. It was magical and very good for the soul.

What I found in this home made the long trip even more worth while. The owner of the estate was a man who worked for the mining company in town at the end of their hay day. He had a beautiful collection of antiques that were well above my price range. But back in a hidden corner of his office I found this gem...

A whole collection of vintage mining maps. There are probably about 40-50 total. They are all different sizes, colors, designs and all from the 40's-60's. I've been obsessed with maps for quite sometime but never realized how beautiful mining maps were until now.

The problem now is which to sell, and which to keep? Ugh. You can count on many of these beauties showing up and my next 3 scheduled shows. Check the events page for more details. You know you want one!

I enjoyed all your link ups last week but Gina's chair takes the cake!

Your turn. Show me what you got!

Inspiration Board // DIY

I wrote previously about my promise to be a responsible Pinterest user, and told you about this series. Every once in awhile, I will post some inspirational photos from one of my boards. Every photo will be linked to the original source, not to Pinterest.

If you follow me on Pinterest, you have seen that I've been pretty active lately. I've been busy organizing my boards to help with decorating, healthy eating, and summer crafting inspiration. Bailey and I have plans for several projects that we've discovered online lately, and I love having them organized in one place, as well as linked to the proper source.

Here are some pics from my diy inspiration board...

Our wooden spoons are in desperate need of a little color.

I have several tees and a pair of shorts that have stains, this bleach method looks like a fun way to salvage them.

This is a great way to turn instagram (or other photos) into polaroids.

Bailey is WAY into neon. She told me she wishes she was born in the 80's. This will be a fun summer craft for her.

Bailey is also really into dream catchers. I already have all these supplies in my hoard too.

These yarn wrapped bottles & jars are easy enough for B to make and beautiful enough to display.

I have a couple of hard shell vintage suitcases that would be perfect for this project.

I hope you found some inspiration for your boards as well. Don't forget to click on the links so you can pin from the original source!

{thrift score thursday} 6.14

I haven't been to a thrift store in over 2 weeks...gasp! I'm dying over here. Thrift withdrawals are very, very real. I do have a score to share, and some amazing linkers to feature though ;)

Our last time up in Pinetop we went to a fire sale...literally. One of our favorite shops, The Burly Bear, had a horrible fire and lost their building and a ton of inventory. They had a big sale with all the merchandise they were able to salvage to help with the rebuilding efforts. Most of the items were a little smokey smelling or slightly damaged so they were super cheap. I found these 3 little owls that were still in pretty good shape for $1 each.

You all had some great scores as well!

I loved Kimberly's Urban Outfitters knock off vanity tray.

Gina found a great old jewelry box. I have a thing for them.

And, Helen found these great glass bottles with mercury stoppers.

Your turn!

I {heart} thrive furniture

Remember that sofa? The sofa I've been talking about forever? Well it's finally home! I didn't post about it right away because I wanted to give it the Ekstrom family sit on our butts and watch a ton of Mad Men test. It passed with flying colors!

Boy did I have a hard time finding a sofa that complimented our creamy French Provincial. I seriously stressed forever...talk about first world problems! I knew I wanted mid century modern because of the clean lines, but had a hard time finding one in a color and condition that worked for us. You're probably wondering what in the world was I thinking putting those 2 styles together? Well, let's just call my style "eclectic." I don't really give a hoot about design rules and just want what our family loves.

Enter Thrive Furniture. I was super nervous about ordering something that we couldn't sit on first, but I gave it a shot, and here's why:
  • 365 day return policy
  • free swatch samples
  • custom designs
  • American made
  • free shipping both ways
  • lifetime warranty
  • eco-friendly manufacturing
  • amazing customer service communication
There really is no risk. Don't like it? Return it for free!  So we ordered swatches. Just look at all the options:

Then we selected our favorite by using the highly scientific technique of rubbing the swatches on our dog to see which one hid her fur the best. So, Cordova Amber it was. We are in love!

Just look at all the Mid Century goodness happening at this site...

Did I mention the prices are great and there's a 15% off code over there in the sidebar - - - >

shop indie // 6.6

Yay for a new series...shop indie! I'm gonna pop in every once in awhile to review some of my recent purchases from fellow indie biz owners. These are NOT sponsored posts. As a family, we are making more and more purchases from small businesses and less from "big box" stores. You'll still see me with a cart load of Target every once in awhile, but we love supporting small, independent, or local shops. I want to share the best ones with you!

Plantable Mother's Day Card - RanunculusMother's Day Card - Baby Head

I bought my Mother's Day cards from Wit & Whistle. They were super high quality and unique and cost less than most of the mass produced ones at Target. They have some great Father's Day cards too!

Vintage Zippered Pleated Pouches - Color SplashVintage Zippered Pleated Pouches - Carrot Juice

I also got my mom & mil these adorable clutches from Sand & Starfish. They were the perfect size to keep in a larger purse to stay more organized. I stuffed them with lip gloss, nail polish, and other fun goodies.

I LOVE my custom stamp from Sand Shooters. I was super picky about the design and they were totally cool with it. Great to work with and the price is right!

pull down map, vintage map of napoleons europe, genuine vintage school map

This map from Bonnie & Bell might be my favorite Etsy purchase ever. They have the best selection of unique vintage maps and charts. All one of a kind conversation pieces. The shipping was insanely fast and reasonably priced. It only took 3 days to get to me from the English countryside! I HIGHLY recommend this shop for all your vintage wall art needs.

What's your favorite recent indie biz purchase?
